Deadlands - Part 0

One of my friends has decided to start DMing a game of Deadlands, which is a role playing game (RPG) set in a twisted version of the old Wild West/Civil War era. The only thing we really did this evening was set up our character stats, their hindrances (bad characteristics) and edges (good characteristics) plus starting technology for those of use who are playing Mad Scientists (me, with a penchant for designing/developing mechanical death machines, and Damian, a demolitions expert who carries around explosives while smoking and cooking dangerous foods).

I am starting off armed with a methane-based flamethrower, while Damian is lugging around his 'Bag-O-Landmines'. Our party also includes a hexslinger, a gunslinger, and a medic/war doctor/bounty-hunter. Additional party members may join later on. My hindrances include Bloodthirst (showing no pity in battle), Night Terrors (intense nightmares, when I rarely decide to go to sleep, but possible benefits in the form of dream hints and visions), and Big Britches (extremely overconfident in any undertaking). My edges include Mechanically Inclined (science focus that benefits machine building) and Arcane Background Mad Science (for general mad science craziness).

Since this is my first RPG (in real life, certainly not in video games), I feel a strange need to chronicle each evening of our adventures, so Part 1 should show up sometime next week. A brief preview: we each start off on a train headed West, not knowing any of our companions. As for me, I enter in a slightly unconventional manner, having just satisfied a deepseated need.
